Entry 11 Composing in context

From reading to reading I found myself using the context that I had learned from previous readings to better my understanding. In the end with the final reading I think tying everything together with the new definitions that I have learned in the course will really be helpful and will help me to become a more creative writer. Between my psychology courses and English 1001 I found myself using a whole new vocabulary because I had better understandings.

Entry 12 transfer

Having taken a lower level of english before coming to english 1001 I found myself transferring and using the skills I had learned and developed in my prior english class during english 1001. So therefore I think that I am one of those students that does transfer knowledge from level to level.I found the practices and knowledge that I was given in english 1001 very helpful and will continue . to use what I have learned in past english classes as I move up to different classes. Being a psychology major I really like the research assignment because that is one thing that I have learned really well and grasped the concept of and I found myself using tools and resources from my previous psychology courses to have a well written research project. From this class I can now use the deeper definition to have deeper and more creative pieces of writing.

Potential genre proposal

For the 3rd major assignment I would like to use the potential genre of music for this project because there are so many different styles of music and it is as if the different styles of music are their own discourse communities because the artists and the fan are what make up that discourse community based on their musical preference.

Based on the readings and the class discussions on genre my knowledge of genre has expanded greatly. In Bazerman’s readings he talks about genre as the carried out patterned,typical,and intelligible forms of text. My definition for genre before reading and discussing was genre is the overall theme and focus point that helps tie everything together and make it easier for the people reading it to understand. The definitions are almost alike but the authors of the readings of course had a deeper more knowledgeable definition.

Blog post #8 Purpose and primary research

After reading the article by Grant-Davie my vision on purpose has not changed as much as it did for the other readings. I found the terms mentioned connecting to the other terms we have been using because Grant-Davie was very good about incorporating the other authors and mentioning the terms that they each defined. Him doing that made it easier to connect the pieces together by him doing that.

In Greene’s sample essay I really liked the way they had the information organized and thought they made it very easy to comprehend and go back through to find information from a specific section. In my essay I am planning on following the same organizational patterns that they did in their essay so that my readers will have an easier time telling the different sections of information apart from each other.

Audience

Audience is the assembled spectators that view your pieces. Whether it is in reading or writing or even presenting a speech yourself audience is one of the most important things to take into consideration as the topics of your pieces may not be of interests to all audiences. For example if your writing about cars and all the information is about cars then you would not want your audience to be a group of chefs for a restaurant because they will lose interests in it very quickly and then may not have any interests in your next pieces because they’ll think you do not understand who your audience is supposed to be and all of your stuff will be totally off topic from the group of people that are viewing it.

Before receiving the information about knowledge I just had the basic everyday definition of knowledge but now that I have more information and a better more logical definition of knowledge I no longer view it as the information you gather from school or living your everyday life as I thought that was the actual meaning of it. I am able to view it from a more creative way and understand all sides of knowledge.

research topic reflection

The reason I am interested in doing more research with my topic is because I would like to encourage the everyday people to see the disabled as normal people to instead of judging and pointing. I have personal experience with this and would like to be able to educate people how their body language towards us makes us feel less confident in ourselves and the way we live life from day to day. The way we are seen by the general public and the way they react makes it very hard for us to even want to go out in public in fear of being judged. This us why I would like to do this topic because I want to be an advocate for not only myself as a disabled person but also all of the other people that may not feel good about being an advocate for such a sensitive topic.
